Consortium reaffirms that it will not drill in disputed area with Israel

The consortium of IOCs consisting of Total, ENI and Novatek, with a licence to explore Block 9 of Lebanon’s offshore acreage will not drill in the portion of the concession area disputed by Israel and Lebanon; Novatek Chief Executive Leonid Mikhelson said at press conference held during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum last week.

Mikhelson said the area was uninteresting from a geological standpoint. The consortium holds a licence to explore Block 9 as well as Block 4, which does not lie in disputed territory. Drilling is expected to start mid 2019 in Block 4.
