ExxonMobil drillship on its way to Cyprus

THE vessel leased by ExxonMobil to drill for gas off the coast of Cyprus was on Thursday en route to the island.

The Stena IceMax drillship, flying a United Kingdom flag, was scheduled to arrive off Limassol on Monday, November 12.

Stena IceMAX is the world’s first dynamically positioned, dual mast ice-class drillship. The Stena IceMAX is a Harsh Environment DP Class 3 drillship capable of drilling in water depths up to 10, 000ft and reach a drilling depth of 35, 000ft below the sea floor. It can accommodate up to 180 persons.

All four supporting vessels from the Houston based company Tidewater arrived already in Limassol port and the logistics shore base is ready for the operation start.

The drillship is expected to begin boring down into the seabed on or around November 15, at a location in offshore block 10 dubbed ‘Delfini’.
