Caretaker Energy Minister Nada Boustani Monday extended the deadline for the submission of applications in the second licensing round for oil and gas exploration.
The date has been moved from Jan. 31, 2020 to April 30, 2020, a statement from the ministry said.
The statement said that the Energy Ministry and the Lebanese Petroleum Administration had received requests from international oil companies to extend the deadline to “allow these companies to complete their administrative and technical preparations stipulated in the book of tenders.”
In February 2018, Lebanon signed its first offshore oil and gas exploration and production agreements for Block 4 and Block 9.
The government approved bids by an international consortium of energy companies comprising Total from France, Eni from Italy and Novatek from Russia.
