Turkey or US behind attack on Syrian oil pipelines in Mediterranean: Russian media

Syria’s oil pipelines off the coast of Tartous recently came under attack by an unknown entity in the eastern Mediterranean.

While no group or country has claimed responsibility for the attack, Syria’s Al-Watan publication, citing Russian Today and Eurasia Daily, reported that the explosions at the oil pipelines were not an accident.

The report said the pictures showing the aftermath of the explosion indicates that they were detonated.

“The pictures show that the pipelines were not accidentally damaged, but rather, were detonated. The importance of these lines is that they supply the Banias oil refinery with raw materials from tankers, and are now the main source of strategic energy in Syria.

They would go on to say that those responsible for the attack were either the United States – who have imposed sanctions against Syria – or neighboring Turkey.
