Italy wants role for ENI in Lebanese offshore gas fields

Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano said during a visit to the Lebanese capital on last Thursday that Italy is hoping ENI will have a role in the exploitation of the country’s offshore gas fields. ”ENI is a global player that is performing very well at the international level,” he stressed, ”and we hope that there will be good chances for work also in Lebanon, as has occurred in the past in the region.”

Some 13 companies, including ENI, Total, Shell, Chevron and others, have pre-qualified as operators for the exploitation of gas fields off the Lebanese coastline, the first of which will be assigned by the end of this year.
